Who: The Canton Scholastic Chess League (CSCL) is a non-profit organization located in Stark County, Ohio. Our members are students at various Elementary, Middle and High schools in the area, both public and private. Our 2007-08 season had 349 students from 48 schools registered to play.
What: CSCL conducts chess tournaments and promotes the game of chess to interested students.
When: We typically conduct 4 chess tournaments, one per month from November through February, the last of which is the Championship for the year.
Where: Our tournaments are hosted in various locations generally at a member school that has a large facility.
Why: To bring the benefits and enjoyment of chess to our kids.
How Much: The fee for all four tournaments for the whole year is $30 per student. In addition, USCF membership for each student is required to play in the rated sections of the tournaments, which is either $17, $22 or $26 per year depending on age. There is no fee for a school to play in the league, but we do expect you to follow the rules set forth in our Constitution and By-Laws.
